Warm lake stage race:
The race is based out of the North Shore Lodge at Warm Lake, approximately 26 miles east Cascade, Idaho. The Lodge has cabins available, a cafe, bar, and small grocery / sundry store.
The race itself is a low-key affair intended to provide mushers with an opportunity to work their dogs in a race format as well as to aquaint less experienced dogs and mushers with the race environment. One such opportunity is to experience multiple head-on passings, as well as overtakes, which generally are not encountered when training teams individually.
Spectators:
For spectators, it is a chance to see teams up close and share the raw enthusiasm of the teams as they leave the chute; it is simply impossible not to smile.
While the teams make their way on the 26-mile course, spectators can relax inside the North Shore Lodge for a meal in the cozy and rustic setting, chat with several organizers of the ISDC while they watch the live tracker or head out for a snowshoe, cross country ski or some ice fishing.
About the race and course:
The Warm Lake Stage Race is a 2-day 52-mile race, 26 miles each day. Team standings are determined by combining finish times for both days.
The trail starts and finishes at North Shore Lodge. It travels over some short hills and then descends on to the South Fork Salmon River plain. It then goes uphill to a lollipop loop turn around. The terrain is relatively easy and is an out and back route. The trail is the same both days. The scenery is gorgeous, the environment relaxed drawing world-class mushers from far and wide and making it an exceptional event for mushers and spectators alike.

The Warm Lake Checkpoint is located at the North Shore Lodge, Warm Lake.
The Warm Lake Stage Race is a two-day event, starting and finishing each day at the North Shore Lodge.
